Thomas Cap de Ville’s works, drawings, objects, photographs, videos, texts, teeth, hair, fluids are the residual matter of his youth manifesto. They are his slags, the solid pieces of cooled down lava, issued from fusion as the leftovers of the volcanic burst of his twenties in the early 2000s. All his materials come from post-adolescent trips converging at night to wander the cities under starless skies.
We walked, we danced, we laughed.
Thomas’s practice weaves connexions in this matter as langage. The letters are a secret alphabet reminiscent of spiritism sessions. M, E, as portals to speak differently. A langage of resistance that takes the form of of a stain, but is no accident. One needs one’s own letters to escape the world, communicate with the spirits and befriend ghosts.
Thomas’s narrative talks about the intimate that is nonetheless the one’s of thousand other kids. It is the banal of their walks, their mistakes and more importantly their bonds. The firendship, the love, the substances. The images they produce then they abandon.
In the middle stands the figure of the youngster he once was. It is me, it is you, it is the artist. It is a fetish that recaptures the clothes of an era as one repossesses the history, the codes and the truth. it comes dressed with memories. It is a relic but also a storyteller and it tells us : ‘I will forever love the excitment and the burning desire of the before-know, before-taste. To stay in the lust and the wait and to make it a big celebration’.
