Lounis Baouche (1994) lives and works in Bgayet, Algeria. He graduated from the Azazga School of Fine Arts in 2018. Through allegorical characters and an aesthetic influenced by comic books and cartoons, his work questions human social relationships and the power dynamics intertwined with them. For his first personal exhibition in France, he reappropriates the cowboy figure and the myths conveyed by the western genra. He delves into how we envision distant lands, foreign territories, and the utopian fantasies that stem from them.
His work has recently been featured in collective exhibitions such as «This Perfect Day» at Exo Exo (2023) and «En attendant Omar Gatlato: Epilogue» at Magasin CNAC, Grenoble (2023). He was a resident at the Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2023) and at the Friche de la Belle de Mai, Marseille (2022), and he participated in Liste Art Fair, Basel (2022), Abu Dhabi Art (2022), and Paris Internationale, Paris (2021). He was also the recipient of the Jury’s Favorite Young Painter Award at the Société Générale Algeria Awards in 2017. In 2023, his work was acquired by the FRAC Bretagne.
